Dehradun is going to be India’s first city to have the service of Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS) as economy committee and Empowered Committee of Infrastructure has approved the proposal. The work on the project would begin once Cabinet gives the required permit.
Dehradun soon to be gifted with PRTS for easy transportation
Dehradun has taken step forward in the direction of being smart city as Uttarakhand capital is going to become the first city in India which will have Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS) and the approval for the same has been granted. Cabinet would be presented with the proposal and after Cabinet’s approval the project would take off.
PRTS is one of its kind medium of transportation which is present in some European countries and Dubai. It comprises of a computerised Cab which runs on a specific track. Fully air conditioned Cab would work as an elevator where 5-6 people can sit at once and travel to their destination. No driver would be required in the cab as it would be operated from a specified operating centre.
In Dehradun the PRTS would begin its first journey from MDDA Office (Near Subhash Nagar) to Sai Temple (Rajpur). This would be the first route of PRTS which is about 20 Km long and would have 19 stoppages. Cab can attain maximum speed of 40Km/Hr and will run on tracks which will be constructed on the dividers at height of 10 Metres. Cab or Pods will be equipped with CCTV cameras whereas ticketing point will be handled through a touch screen booking system at every station.
22 Billion Is the estimated cost of the project and research thing has been completed. This project is a great news for Doonites and people visiting Dehradun as it would help to cope up with enhancing traffic issue.
