Indian team’s performance in recent times has been a topic of debate as Team India seems to be in a mess and chances of winning the T20 World Cup 2016 next year looks a difficult assignment.
Indian Players poor performance in Short form of Cricket, a concern
India has been an incredible ODI and short format side since 2010 especially in Indian conditions. MS Dhoni as Captain has led to India winning World Cup in 2011 followed by Champions trophy and then smashing teams like Sri Lanka, Australia and England at their home turf but the champion team looks in miserable form lately.
India lost a series to Bangladesh and now losing two T20 matches and series to South Africa proves Indian team concern. India has been a good short format team under MS Dhoni but hassle in team selection and dilemma about players batting order has made things difficult for men in blue.
There were rumours about MS Dhoni being removed as a captain after Bangladesh debacle but they were just rumours and now the team performance is likely to lighten those rumours again. India will be playing World T20 at their home but winning the title seems difficult task with this team when comparing to the likes of Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and yeah West Indies too.
Reasons for India’s World T20 Concern
Team India seems unsettled. Too much tinkering seems to have worsened the cause as playing eleven is still not cemented. India has number of games before World T20 as they face Australia and Sri Lanka but they need to fix their top 15 or more likely top 11 to battle on the ground.
Ambati Rayudu is not helping the team in anyway and so is Axar Patel. There is still time to bring in Ajinkya Rahane and may be Stuart Binny or a bowling all rounder like Hardik Pandya. India needs to back express bowlers like Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron as Arvind or Mohit Sharma hardly seems to win a match for us.
Suresh Raina is a big player when it comes to short format but he needs to understand his responsibilities as quick runs are always precious but at times he needs to bat till the end (he didn’t in previous match after settling down).
India plays three quality players in top order but none of them is a go getter as they take some time to settle. Rohit, Shikhar and Virat at top three can be tinkered with likes of Raina as Raina does impeccable job for his IPL side CSK at number 3. Virat at 4 would provide more solidity to batting order.
Bowling department is big concern, bhuveneshwar needs to bring back his swing and we need a express bowler for sure. Ashwin has matured but he needs a partner may be Harbhajan or preferably a leg spinner (Wicket Taker) like Amit Mishra or Kuldeep Yadav can help teams cause.
There is sometime before World T20 but India needs to fix these issues to battle big teams and win the cup.
