Film and Television Institute of India has been in news for past 70 days majorily because of the protest against the appointment of the new Chairman, Gajendra Chauhan and now the protest has taken a new turn with police arresting 5 FTII students after the FIR filed against them on the complain of FTII Director, Prashant Pathrabe. The students were charged with obstructing a public servant to perform his act which is a non bailable offence and also the charges of destruction of property, Criminal intimidation and rioting.

The students of FTII are against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the new chairman of the highly rated institute for training of Film Making. As per the protestors, Gajendra Chauhan is not able enough to take such a high rated post of institute of the stature if FTII. There are allegations that Mr Chauhan has been assigned this position because of his link to the government party, BJP.

Gajendra Chauhan had played the role of Yudhistir in Epic TV Series of Mahabharata while he acted in film like Baghban starring Amitabh Bachchan other than these projects, Gajendra Chauhan is mostly associated with B Grade films and that is the reason, the students are not pleased by his assignment as the FTIIโ€™s Chairman.

FTII protest is supported by many celebs like Salman Khan, Ranbir kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Anupam Kher and Many more as these celebs have raised their voice against the decision of government. Rahul Gandhi recently visited the campus and took a stand for the protest.

Latest on FTII Protest

Students have been arrested as they questioned and kept the FTII Director under scrutiny for the case of FTII asking 2008 year batch students to leave the campus and submit the project within specified time period to collect their degree. Students and faculty of the institute are in unity and they have held their protest. Delhiโ€™s CM, Mr Arvind Kejriwal has supported the students and has offered them to take their classes in Delhi till this impasse is over.
