Finally the drought at the Box office is eradicated and the movie freaks are back in theatres. For quite a good time there was hardly any movie which racked some humongous amount for the cinemas and distributors but with the release of GABBAR IS BACK, it seems audience is back and people seem to be enjoying Khiladi Kumar’s PWD (Power Waala Danda). This is Akshay kumar’s second release this year after critically acclaimed ‘BABY’ which had lifetime collection of 95 crores at the Indian box office while Gabbar is Back has already made 60 Crores in its first week in spite of Indian Premier League season on.
Gabbar is back released on May 1 and collected good amount of 13 crore on its opening day and went on to collect around 40 crore in its first weekend. Though the movie critics have given it mixed reviews but word of mouth is working in the movie’s favour and in spite of IPL season the Akki starrer is doing some good business at the box office. Last few months have been sour for film industry as there were hardly any big hits and last good earner was also Akshay starrer ‘BABY’ back in January, 2015.
Gabbar is Back is expected to cross 100 crore mark though the competition form movie like ‘PIKU’ can cut its collection. PIKU which released yesterday took a slow start but it is said to be a gem of movie and performances from Amitabh bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irfan Khan is being praised by each and every viewer. Though the movie is not mass appealing hence it may not harm GABBAR IS BACK as much.
Well with the movies like GABBAR IS BACK and PIKU, it can be said that good day for cinemas is back and it should continue to entertain the public with forthcoming releases like Bombay Velvet, Tanu weds Manu Returns, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, Brothers etc.
