India continued their brilliant home run in test matches as India defeated Proteas quite easily in this low scoring match held at Mohali. South Africa was bowled out at 109 while chasing the target of 218 and hence lost the match by 109 runs to the hosts.
India Vs South Africa Match Report
India batted first to score a mediocre total of 201 runs in the first innings to which South Africa’s reply was quite wanting as visitors stumbled at 184 hence giving the crucial lead of 17 runs to the Indian team.
Second inning of Indian team was no different to the first as hosts scored 200 runs with Cheteswar Pujara’s 77 and Murali Vijay’s 47 runs contributions. Shikar Dhawan was again a disappointment with his duck and so was the captain, Kohli. Harmer and Imran Tahir grabbed 4 wickets each.
South Africans were given the target of 218 on this spinning track of Mohali and they were expected to achieve the target with quality batters like Amla, Faf and AB but story was totally different as visitors stomped early in their innings with 10 for 3 which included wickets of Amla and Faf Du Plesis. AB Devilliers was the key to Proteas success but his dismissal by Amit Mishra at 16 closed the doors for South African chances as visitors were bowled out for 109 with Van Zyl (36) being the highest scorer for Proteas. Ravindra Jadeja grabbed 5 wickets and played a key role in India’s success.
Vital Factors in Indian Win: India Vs South Africa
The pitch played a huge part in Indian win. The highest team score in any inning was 201 which tell quite a lot about the wicket at Mohali. The pitch hardly had anything for fast bowlers though it was a dream track for spinners and a demon for batters.
Spin trio of Ashwin, Jadeja and Mishra had their impact on the game as they did what was required to grab the success at this spin friendly wicket. The trio shared 19 wickets in two innings.
South Africa lacked experience as their bowlers did their bid but their batters disappointed. Faf was huge disappointment especially with his huge Indian condition experience (Chennai Super kings) whereas Amla and Devilliers couldn’t perform their role as expected.
India and South Africa will now battle in Bengaluru in the second test match of the series.
