Marathi Film ‘Court’ to Represent India for Oscars


Marathi film โ€˜Courtโ€™ has been named as the official entry from India for foreign category of Academy Awards. The results would be announced in February 2016.

Marathi Film โ€˜Courtโ€™ bags the official entry for Oscars

Chaitanya Tamhane directorial, Court bagged the honour of being Indiaโ€™s official entry to Academy awards. Court scored over biggies like PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Baahubali to bag this opportunity to represent the country.

Court is a small budget Marathi film which revolves around the judiciary system of India where a folk artist plays the protagonist and we look the journey through his eyes, we see the cases and how they are procrastinated for decades. It packs powerful court room scenes and effective dialogues.

Court is Chaitanyaโ€™s first directorial affair and has relatively a new cast. The vital roles are played by actors like Vira Sathidar, Vivek Gomber, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Pradeep Joshi, Usha Bane and Shirish PawarVira Sathidar, Vivek Gomber, Pradeep Joshi, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Usha Bane and Shirish Pawar.

Supran Sen, Secretary General of Film Federation of India said,

โ€œCourt has been selected by a 15 member committee constituted for the purpose of choosing Indiaโ€™s entry for the Oscars in Best foreign Film Categoryโ€.

Court has already bagged many awards in various film festivals and also won National Award for best feature film.
