The Entourage led by Virat Kohli recently thrashed South African side in Freedom Test Series hence igniting the murmurs around ODI and T20I Captaincy which threatens MS Dhoni’s Future but is Kohli actually ready to lead men in Blue or Dhoni still has his talismanic touch!
Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni: Prominent Captain for World T20!
Team India is currently enjoying their rising status in Test Cricket which reflects in their latest ICC Test Rankings as they stand at number 2 position after South Africa whom India defeated quite comprehensively in Freedom Test Series. Virat Kohli has led the team to couple of big series wins against Sri Lanka and South Africa whereas same cannot be said for MS Dhoni’s leadership as India have lost many ODI and T20I Series (Bangladesh and South Africa) under MS’s guidance but does that mean,MS Dhoni is no more capable of leading the side! and does Virat possess enough to lead India in all formats!
Virat captaincy was praiseworthy in his short career as Test team skipper but the truth remains that he faced Sri lanka’s weakest side in years and Proteas were let down by their irresponsible batters and to an extent, the pitches which enhanced Ashwin and Jadeja’s spin magic.
Virat Kohli: The Test Skipper of Indian Cricket Team
He is definitely among the top players around the world and tag of modern great won’t be a mismatch with Virat’s name, with impressive young captaincy records, Virat Kohli is sure to win accolades for his leadership qualities with 2-1 series win Sri Lanka at Lankan soil and 3-0 series win over Proteas which also ended Proteas 9 year long run without a series loss on foreign soil. Virat deserves to be proud of his achievements as Test Skipper but is it enough to replace Mahendra Singh Dhoni from the throne or Virat needs to be nurtured under Dhoni to lead the nation in all formats.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: The Talismanic Skipper’s Journey
From being a guy from Ranchi to the most successful Captain of India, MS Dhoni has seen every high and low of being a leader, be it twin world cup wins (World T20 in 2007 and ICC World Cup in 2011),the best ranked team in test cricket in 2009 or being thrashed at foreign soil by England and Australia.
MS Dhoni left the Test Captaincy and retired from the longest form of the game while India was touring Australia in 2014-15 but he continued to play in shorter formats though things haven’t been as per the desired scripts with India being easily vulnerable to the sides like Bangladesh and lately, South Africa. Dhoni is known to be the best of finishers of the game but his stature has been questioned by many as he lacked that atrocious touch with his bat. Dhoni has seen the best and may be the worst as a Player and also as the skipper which gives him that required experience to take a side to a major tournament like WorldT20.Adding to his experience is his fitness and form in short version which defies any rumours about MS being left as Captain in ODI or T20I.
Virat is sure the next big thing for India but when you have MS Dhoni, the debate ends.
