Jio, being a newbie in the 4G market has already broke a number of records and yet one more joins the list. According to a new claim made by Reliance Jio Infocomm on Sunday, it has created a new world record by adding more than 16 million subscribers in the month of September, after the launch of its commercial services on September 5.
September was its first month of operation and in the first month of operation only it has received an overwhelming response. Ever Since the Spectacular entry, Jio has been topping the trends chart because of several disputes/ controversies with telecom giants like Bharti Airtel, Idea, Vodafone and not to forget about the eye catchy 4G offers, that was close to a nightmare for the telecom giants.
In a release they said ‘Jio has achieved this growth faster than any other telecom operator or startup in the world, including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype’.
Jio has been taking advantage of paperless sim activation and this has become possible because of the Aadhaar Card. If you have Aadhaar Card, then you can simply walk in to one of the Reliance Jio store and they will retrieve your details via your Aadhaar Card, but the representative may ask you to show the original as well. Also, for the verification purpose, they will ask you to put on your finger on the finger print scanner and the sim won’t activate till the finger print matches. It’s just a matter of few minutes and the sim gets activated right after the successful completion of the verification process. Paperless sim activation has helped Jio tremendously to add 16 million users in mere 26 days of September and that’s why a release said, ‘This process will be extended across the country and fully stabilised for satisfactory on-boarding experience in the next few weeks’.
Talking about the giants of the industry, then, Vodafone had over 200 million users, while Idea had 177 million users at the August end, and Bharti Airtel’s ‘Broadband base (3G + 4G)’ had 35 million users. It took them 15 years to claim these figures, while Jio on the other hand had claimed 16 million subscribers in just 26 days and according to the industry observers, it is expected that Jio may have 35 million 4G users by the October end.
In a media release on Sunday, the chairman of RIL said, “We are delighted and humbled by the overwhelming response across India to the Jio Welcome Offer. Jio is built to empower every Indian with the power of data. We are delighted that people have recognized this and are utilizing our services to the fullest. We are customer-obsessed and committed to improve every day to exceed expectations of our customers.”
Telecom companies are cursing Reliance Jio Infocomm, while if we see this fight between the telecom giants by consumer’s perspective, then as far as this fight will go, the more affordable voice calling and data charges may become.
