Saina Nehwal won Silver – Saina Nehwal created history by becoming the first Indian to win Silver Medal at World Championship of Badminton though she missed the chance to grab the Gold Medal.
Saina Nehwal Wins Silver in World Badminton Championship
Indian Badminton Superstar, Saina Nehwal faltered in Badminton World Championship as she lost to World Number 1, Carolina Marin in straight set with the score line of 16-21 and 19-21 in the Finals at Jakarta, Indonesia. Saina created history as she is the first Shuttler to win Silver Medal in the event which begun in 1977 though she missed on a golden opportunity to become the First Indian to grab the Gold at World Championship.
Saina Nehwal Vs Carolina Marin
The World Number 1 and World Number 2 were up against each other at the Finals in Jakarta where Saina’s record is quite impressive but Spanish Shuttler; Carolina Marin didn’t allow Saina to surpass her as she used her height and picked Saina’s drop shots quite comfortably. Saina was in lead twice but she couldn’t carry her lead forward and gave chances to Carolina. This is second consecutive Final where Saina couldn’t win the Title though she created history by winning the Silver Medal here.
India in World Badminton Championship
Prakash Padukone had won the bronze in World Badminton Championship in 1983 followed by Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa’s Double’s bronze in 2011. PV Sindhu grabbed bronze twice in 2013 and 2014 but no one had won the Gold or Silver Medal at the event till Saina did it this year.
